2011 Chevy Camaro SS

"We dealt with Ed and Jim in Chrysler and then Ed and Eric in Chevrolet in which Ed was our sales person. He showed us a variety of cars and was very attentive in the questions that we asked and answered them to the best of his ability" 7/11/2011

2011 Chevy Camaro SS

The Chevrolet Camaro rolls into 2011, and continues to combine the spirit of the classic American muscle car with the fuel efficiency, safety, handling, technology and build quality expected in a modern performance coupe. The SS features unique front fascia, sport suspension, Brembo brakes, limited slip differential, a rear spoiler and heated leather seats. The SS has an additional wide and thin black simulated intake on the nose, the easiest way to tell whether it's a V8 or V6. The 2011 Camaro SS succeeds on all the main fronts: drop-dead gorgeous looks, potent and efficient engines borrowed from Cadillac and Corvette, great transmissions, superb handling and ride, and great prices. The SS is fast, and you cannot forget the price, an absolute steal at $31k. The latest technology inside the Camaro keeps you informed and entertained. New for 2011 is the Head-Up Display (HUD), standard on the 2SS model. The HUD displays your speed, rpm and more - even your radio station - on the windshield. You can customize the display height and intensity.

Camaro SS Power and Drive

A V-8 engine is offered exclusively on 2011 Camaro SS models. he SS's 6.2-liter V8 generates 426 horsepower with the standard six-speed manual, and 400 horsepower with the optional six-speed automatic with sequential shift control. It features GM's Active Fuel Management system, which turns off four cylinders under light driving conditions. SS Camaros get a performance-tuned suspension, and large Brembo brakes, adjustable electronic stability and traction control settings, and manual versions feature Launch Control. The Camaro was engineered for precise handling dynamics. It starts with a 52/48 front-to-rear weight ratio, the kind of balance you expect in the world's best sports cars. Its chassis is tuned to stick in turns and handle transitional situations beautifully. These engineering feats, combined with an independent rear suspension and variable-ratio power steering, give Camaro its smooth, sophisticated drive. Visibility through the windshield is good despite the long hood and raked windshield, thanks to careful location of the driver's seat. The structure of the SS is rigid, helping make the turn-in precise for a car this size; the grip is secure, and the damping is solid and supple.

Design of the 2011 Camaro SS

The 2011 Chevy Camaro has a retro theme that borrows from previous models, including a long hood and short rear deck. The front end features a honeycomb grille, and the rear has aggressively styled fenders with air intakes shaped like gills. The back has four rounded taillamps, similar to the ones found on the Corvette. An available RS appearance package includes high-intensity-discharge headlamps with integrated halo rings, a rear spoiler, unique taillamps and 20-inch wheels. The shapely strong hips stand out almost as much as the long hood. The rigid B-pillar is blacked-out, thus creating a clean outline for the side glass, blending into a handsome hardtop roofline. The twin taillights look like blinking red sunglasses in each corner. The rear spoiler is a small lip that could be integrated more smoothly. The new Camaro captures the look of the original '67, while not being seduced into retro clunkiness, virtually, and beautifully, there's no chrome.

2011 Chevy Camaro SS Cabin

Inside the Camaro SS, the retro theme that reflects the exterior continues on the inside. In a rare instance for GM, the Camaro's steering wheel, radio unit and climate controls are unique to this car, not shared with another GM vehicle. The interior of the 2011 Camaro is plush and accommodates two in the front and two in the back with 42.4 inches of legroom in the front and 39.9 inches of legroom in the back. The shoulder room in the front is 56.9 inches and 42.5 inches in the back. The cargo room is 11.3 cubic feet with a nineteen-gallon fuel tank.  There's an available auxiliary instrument panel near the shifter that indicates oil temperature, oil pressure, battery charge and transmission fluid temperature. Optional equipment includes Bluetooth wireless connectivity, power sunroof, performance tires, Boston Acoustic sound system and a variety of exterior stripe packages. The SS2 option package includes heated mirrors and seats, nine-speaker, 245-watt audio system, Bluetooth and USB port, leather shift knob and steering wheel with audio controls, remote starting, and console mounted gauges including oil temp and pressure, volts and transmission fluid temp; the LT2 package also includes 19-inch painted aluminum wheels. A sunroof is optional.

Conclusions

The Camaro SS has the killer V8, a 6.2-liter Corvette engine making 400 horsepower with the optional six-speed manual automatic or 425 horsepower with the standard six-speed manual. It uses the same suspension design with firmer shocks, springs and anti-roll bars, producing the same result under more demanding circumstances: great handling, great ride. Visit the official 2011 Chevy Camaro site for the latest updates on this model. All Camaros receive OnStar, with one free year of GM's Safe and Sound Plan, whose features include monthly email alerts, automatic crash response and roadside assistance. The 2011 models also get six months of free Connections and Directions Plan. The Camaro competes with other retro-inspired muscle coupes, including the Dodge Challenger and Ford Mustang. For those looking for extra power, the SS does the job at an incredibly affordable price and value.
